Volume 16: Reference Material
Who's who
Explanation of the S and T codes

The S codes in the left-hand column of the Who's who below refer to written witness statements submitted to the Inquiry. The T codes refer to transcripts of oral hearings.

Thus, for example, Sir Donald Acheson submitted an initial written statement (S251) followed by six subsequent ones (S251A-F). He also gave evidence on Day 79 and Day 128 of the oral hearings. T79 and T128 are the transcripts of those hearings.

Any evidence labelled S or T (together with other coded categories of evidence) can be consulted:

    • either through the Public Record Office; or
    • on a series of CD-ROMs available from The Stationery Office; or
    • on the BSE website (www.bseinquiry.gov.uk).
