Volume 11: Scientists after Southwood 2.24 Sir Donald Acheson and Mr Andrews agreed that MAFF and DH should jointly service the Committee. 1 Dr Pickles, a Principal Medical Officer in DH, explained to the Inquiry that the secretariat, comprising herself and Mr John Maslin of MAFF's Animal Health Division, was responsible for preparing and agreeing meeting agendas and minutes, and collating relevant papers. She also said that she played a key role in drafting the final report, as she wrote most of it, and devised its layout. 2 2.25 According to Dr Tyrrell, the meetings of the Committee ran smoothly, and were well organised and coordinated, with MAFF and DH tending to take turns in organising them. 3 Dr Kimberlin reiterated this view, and suggested that both the MAFF and DH limbs of the secretariat served the Committee very well. 4 1 YB88/10.24/6.1 2 S115 Pickles paras 27.2 and 27.4.
