Volume 10: Economic Impact and International Trade 5.7 Exports are legally controlled by the terms of the Import, Export and Customs Powers (Defence) Act 1939, as amended by the Import and Export Act 1990. Under these Acts, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has broad powers to prohibit or regulate, or exempt from regulation, the export from the UK of any types of goods. |
